What are the different types of respite care?

Respite care is available (and helpful) for different reasons. MACG has eight homes located in Victoria and Melbourne and the types of respite care available include:

  • Short term respite care
  • Emergency respite care
  • Weekend respite care
  • Dementia respite care
  • Alzheimer’s respite care
  • Long term respite care

To find out more about the types of respite care the specific home you are interested in caters for, please get in touch and we'll happily walk you through the options.

What effects the weekly cost of respite care?

The cost of respite care depends on which of MACG’s eight homes you or your loved one wishes to attend and what type of room you’d like to secure. Each of our lovely and uniquely fitted out homes has a selection of excellent value rooms.

When it comes to pricing, the cost may depend on the size of the room and the outlook — but also your circumstances. Each of our highly sought after homes has several options.

It’s common to ask questions like:

  • What size rooms do you have available?
  • Do you have single and premium rooms?
  • Do you have companion rooms?
  • Does it have an en suite?
  • How many rooms are there in total?

Regardless of size, all of our rooms have the necessary touches for comfort and well being. In no time at all, you'll feel right at home.

How much does it cost to stay in respite care for a week?

Respite care that is subsidised by the Australian government is charged at a fixed fee. Per day, respite care costs 85% of the amount allocated for a single day's aged pension.

With the 2021 single aged pension at $952.70 per fortnight for a single person, this would put the cost of a week in respite care at just under $405.

How much does it cost for emergency respite care?

One of the common inquiries we get is about the weekly cost for emergency respite care. Sometimes urgent respite care is needed and you have haven’t time to plan ahead, this is usually not a problem, and we have options for last minute requests.

The cost will depend on which of the homes you’d like to attend, but the philosophy at MACG centres on the acknowledgement that we see care and support as necessary and accessible.

Our fees reflect this and we always welcome visitors to contact us and have a chat about your budget and options. For further information about emergency respite care, call us and we’ll provide all the information you need.

Understanding the costs of aged care

At MACG we understand everyone’s circumstances are different and some will struggle more than others with the budget for respite care. It’s always important to tell us about your personal financial position, so we can ensure we ask the right questions to get you the best support.

Some additional factors to consider about the costs of aged care in Australia are:

  • The government subsidises aged care in this country
  • Residents are asked to pay basic daily or weekly fees and a refundable accommodation deposit, which is assessed by the government
  • Fees are calculated according to individual financial circumstances

With a number of subsidies and options available, respite care in Australia is within reach, even during challenging financial times.
