At Medical and Aged Care Group (MACG), we believe in the power of connection, and nothing brings people together quite like music.
This week, our Carrum Downs home was filled with laughter, movement and shared delight during a special intergenerational music session led by Hey Dee Ho and their wonderfully talented facilitator, Sonja Olssen. These sessions are a much-loved part of life in our homes, offering our residents a meaningful way to engage with local children, build connections and experience the happiness that comes from simply being in the moment.
Adding to the occasion, we were delighted to welcome The Hon. Sonya Kilkenny MP, Member for Carrum, who joined the session to see the program in action. Her visit was a reminder of how impactful these community-based initiatives can be, not only for our residents but for families and the broader community, too.

What makes these sessions so special?
Hey Dee Ho’s intergenerational music sessions are designed to encourage interaction and connection between older adults and young children. With percussion instruments, puppets, dancing, singing and familiar tunes that bring back happy memories, these sessions provide more than just entertainment. They create space for empathy, storytelling and emotional connection across generations.
Residents lit up as little ones ran into the room with curiosity and smiles. There was foot-tapping, hand clapping, laughter and moments of quiet warmth as familiar songs evoked memories. For many of our residents, these sessions bring a sense of comfort, belonging and renewed purpose.

Why we prioritise programs like these at MACG
As a family-owned aged care provider, MACG is committed to creating lively, inclusive homes where residents feel supported and involved physically, socially, and emotionally. Programs like Hey Dee Ho enhance our model of care by fostering wellbeing through meaningful activities, relationships, and community participation.
By creating opportunities for residents to interact with younger generations, we are not only reducing feelings of loneliness but also enriching their days with energy, connection and fun.
We are proud to work with passionate facilitators like Sonja, and to be supported by community leaders like Sonya Kilkenny who understand the importance of aged care that goes beyond the basics.

At MACG, care isn’t just about what we do. It’s about how we make people feel.
