At the Medical and Aged Care Group (MACG), we proudly embrace family values as the foundation of our homes. This commitment is reflected in our meaningful Worry Doll Project, a small yet powerful initiative that embodies our spirit of care and compassion.

Launched in 2022, this initiative began as a creative activity in a few MACG homes. Residents were invited to create simple dolls using wool, wooden beads, and fabric, inspired by traditional Guatemalan "worry dolls." These dolls are placed under pillows at night to help carry away worries while people sleep.

What happened next speaks volumes about the power of community, creativity and human connection.

Residents across all nine MACG homes embraced the project with care and intention. Each doll became a small expression ofthoughtfulness- a way to connect, give back, and share comfort with others. Over time, these lovingly handmade figures found their way beyond our walls, into the hands of hospital visitors, community organisations, and even strangers in need of a small act of kindness.

To date, more than a thousand Worry Dolls have been created and shared. But this project is about much more than numbers. It'sabout purpose. Expression. Dignity. And above all, connection.

Why It matters

The Worry Doll Project beautifully aligns with MACG's mission to put residents at the forefront of everything we do. When residents are given the opportunity to create and contribute, not just receive care, we honour their identities, stories and ongoing sense of purpose.

This project also supports our vision of fostering close-knit communities within our homes. The act of crafting the dolls togetherencourages conversation, companionship and collaboration among residents. And when these dolls are given to others, they become a symbol of shared humanity with lasting meaning.

Building communities rooted in respect

At MACG, we believe aged care should be fearless conversations and creating environments where respect and human connection flourish. Initiatives like our Worry Doll Project remind us that aged care is not only about support, but also about recognising the value, strength, and spirit of every individual.

Because sometimes, the smallest gestures carry the most meaning.
