A weekend stay in an MACG home at a glance

Each of our homes across Victoria offers hotel-style services, vibrant communities, and varied activities to keep your mind and body active. Even if you're only staying for the weekend, you can become a part of our community.

Your home, for the weekend

We've worked hard to make sure our residents feel comfortable and secure in the homes we've built — including those who only stay for the short term. Whether you're with us for a weekend or a week, we encourage residents to bring belongings from home if they want, and make their room their own.

  • Access to qualified staff around-the-clock
  • Hotel-style services, like meals cooked on-site, and laundry
  • Access to allied health services (at an additional cost)
  • Dietitian-approved menu plans

Connect with other residents

We've created diverse lifestyle programs for each of our homes. Whether you want to spend time in nature with a group of like-minded individuals, or enjoy a movie night in your room, we have something on for everyone.

  • Pet and animal visits
  • Mobility and wellness classes
  • Seated Tai Chi
  • Movement to music
  • Walking groups
  • Meditation and relaxation
  • Memory and reminiscence programs
  • Sensory programs
  • Social, emotional, and pastoral support
  • Physiotherapy exercise classes, for an additional cost, and not available on the weekends

Enjoy a preview of what it's like to volunteer

If you don't already, you will enjoy the chance to volunteer and fundraise for both local and national charities. Many of our residents have chosen charities close to their hearts, and enjoy making arts and crafts to sell at fundraisers. When you enjoy weekend respite care at our homes, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Collect, sort, and donate items for charity
  • Raise money for national NFPs like Beyond Blue, and Cancer Council Australia
  • Sew, knit, or create other arts and crafts objects to sell in fundraisers

Frequently asked questions

What do I need to pack when I receive weekend respite care?

When you stay with us for the weekend, you'll want to pack daily necessities such as:

  • Enough changes of clothes to last you the weekend
  • Pyjamas
  • Toiletries
  • Medicine
  • A list of dietary requirements

Plus any devices you use often, and chargers for these devices.

What happens if I need to stay longer than the weekend?

It has happened before. Sometimes, a resident's carer is unable to resume duties once the weekend is over. In these cases, we work with our residents to find the best alternate solution — whether that involves staying longer in our homes, or accessing our day respite program instead. But we'll never leave you without care.

What happens if I want to access the lifestyle program, but I don't want to live in the aged care home?

You can stay connected with us and any friends you made during your stay by accessing our day respite services. Get in touch with our team to find out if your eligible, and how day respite works.
